The SC7010BV is one of the best hardwired combination alarms on the market! I have installed hundreds of the SC7010BV in homes and it is the best protection for your hallway and common area for hardwired units. The SC7010BV Features programmable voice that will alert the location of the unit and the danger detected. Photoelectric smoke sensing gives optimum protection for smoldering fires and reduces false alarms caused by cooking or showers and steam. The SC7010BV has Variable horn frequency which makes it easier for the elderly with age related hearing loss to hear the horn. The SC7010BV Provides hazard location information (such as smoke in the kitchen) for blind or visually impaired on the alarming unit. All the SC7010BV’s will talk and tell you what is going on if its smoke vs Carbon Monoxide.     To protect ourselves, our house, recently built horse barn and horses, we buried a dedicated 3-conductor cable along with the other utilities linking house and barn. That allowed us to network 7 BRK SC7010BV. Programming the alarms using the 12 possible locations lets us know where an alarm condition occurs. After solving a small glitch in the directions for programming the locations, the network works well. A fire in the hayloft is still possible, but we would know about it quickly even in the middle of the night (sleeping through these alarms is not possible). They do, however, provide temporary silencing for false alarms due to cooking, soldering, brazing, etc.

    I found shopping experience at Smoke Alert was extremely easy to navigate the sight. I quickly located the First Alert ionization type Smoke/Carbon Monoxide model I was replacing. I had a few questions which Chris answered very clearly, and he also recommended that I upgrade to the photoelectric sensor rather than the ionization model, because photoelectric detects smoldering – a good added safety feature. This detector was very easy to install. We received it within two or three days and are completely satisfied. Hope it doesn’t sound off an alarm any time soon, but feel more secure knowing we have it and like the Voice feature. We will order all of our detector replacements from Smoke Alert.

    No fires, no carbon monoxide, so don’t know if the sensors really work, but at least the the weekly push-button tests all work as advertised… and NO FALSE ALARMS. Having weekly false alarms was the problem with my 6-year old units (same model number). These newer units have a redesigned sensor, which is warranted for 10 years, vs. the former one which had only a 5 year warranty.

    I had 4 of these that were installed in my house by the previous owner. They all died (3 chirps)almost 6 years (to the day) after they were manufactured. Replacement was quick & easy, SmokeAlert had free shipping and a better price than the big box stores (Home Depot,etc) but most important SmokeAlert’s detectors come with a 10 year warranty as opposed to the 5 or 7 that the others have! A better detector for less $, it almost seems to good to be true…but it’s not.Recommending SmokeAlert to all my friends.

    After having a couple of smoke detectors in my house decide to activate with every power outage, went looking to replace them. SmokeAlert site was one of the best sites discussing detector lifetimes (mine were 20 years old so beyond normal life) and discussing types (Ionizing/Photoelectric/CO).

    Helped me identify a solution that I wanted (Photoelectric+CO). I needed 8 of them.

    At prices I was finding other places (approx. $65) I considered the NEST alternative, but then SmokeAlert had them at $45 per unit. At that point, it was $160 less than other sites AND $440 less than NEST.

    So was easy decision. Shipment was prompt, all units worked great, put them in in about 1.5 hours, and appreciate the loud horn and the voice.

    Toughest part was testing 8 detectors because they are interconnected so each test set off all 8.

    I assume this will be a good product. Really one never knows until you need it! But the installation instructions could use some improvement. Turns out I needed to program the “voice” before I turned the electricity back on. Didn’t know that and had to start all over. This isn’t easy when you’re up on a ladder. Had to take out the batteries, reinstall them, program the voice and THEN turn the electricity back on. The “voice” instructions are separate from the installation instructions. I actually had to call the company to figure this all out.

    I talked to the owner before buying, great advice. I replaced 13-year old units with all SC7010BV units, and am adding a heat director in the garage. Installation and testing was easy. I presume they will work well when needed. My only complaint is that, while they are interconnected, they don’t announce the location except AT that location. So, if there is smoke in the children’s bedroom, the children’s bedroom unit will say “smoke in the children’s bedroom, evacuate”. The other units will just say “smoke detected, evacuate”. It seems like it should announce the location at all the compatible units.

    When my alarm failed in the middle of the night, I spent a good hour searching for the Manual. After I downloaded it from the website, it said nothing about the five consecutive beeps that I had hoped to find. I had to take the alarm off its socket to finally read the very small print with the explanation. This is not very helpful.

    We first installed these alarms about five years ago. Aside from the annoying fact that when the batteries go, the alarm goes off – usually at 3:00 AM, the seemed to work well. At least our house has not burned down while we were there.

    Then, about six months ago, they began to fail one after the other. The failure mode was that the alarm would go off constantly every 20 minutes. The test would not give the usual results. Eventually I replaced them all. Our builder had gone overboard and installed seven of them in a small three bedroom house. One seemed to fail within three months. The others appear to be working properly.

    Once you have wired these suckers in, you are stuck – unless you want a huge electricians bill. But they do appear to work for five years (mostly).

The old mounting bracket must be replaced with the new one as they are ever so slightly different, since the new device wouldn’t lock into the old bracket.

    Installed very easily, it came withe batteries, AA not 9 volt and no nuance alarms in the middle of the night. It is quite loud but uses more of a bass tone than the standard smoke alarm. You can program the area that it is in so that the smoke or CO alarm will tell you the area it was detected in. At the end of the test it will let you know the max CO2 level since the last test.

    I purchased two of the BRK First Alert SC7010BV Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms to replace two 20+ year old Firex G-6 Hardwired Smoke Alarms. The old Firex alarm did not even have a battery backup. It was simple to replace the old Firex wiring harness with the new SC7010BV wiring harness. The two old alarms were wired together and the new wiring harness used the existing house wiring for power and communications between the new alarms. The new mounting bracket used the same mounting screws and holes so the replacements were simple and quick. I was able to easily program the voice location in each new alarm. The testing the alarms went perfect and each alarm would communicate with the other alarm so both alarms would go off and speak the correct location of the test alarm.

    The SC7010BV works as expected. Though I do have to say that the “10-year” lifespan is not true. I got 6 years from the one I replaced. It beeped signaling the end of its life, which is not resettable or mutable. This is the second SC7010BV I’ve replaced in my home. The first about a year ago. Unfortunately, the warranty does not match the 10-year advertised lifespan.

    I removed 1 star for the OEM’s misleading advertising and 1 for the warranty falling short of the claimed lifespan of the product.

    That said, the seller (SmokeAlert) did a fine job at delivering my replacement at a fair price.

    The alarms arrived very quickly and in new condition. I have 6 alarms throughout the house and I like these because they tell me where the alarm is coming from when you set the location. My last alarms would send me around the house searching like a madman for which one was going off. So far luckily no real or false alarms have happened so I am happy. The alarm footprint was slightly smaller than my last ones (Kidde) so that is something to check before you buy. Luckily for me, the ceilings were painted before the last alarms were installed so you can’t tell but I could see it being a potential issue.

    These were to replace 9 of the same which were purchased from you on 2/8/2014 with a mfg. date of December 27, 2013. Around the beginning of July 2021 the ALL started, one by one, to announce “Detector error in (Location), please see manual.” This message was repeated every 5 hours as well as five chirps every minute. After, removing each one as this happened and we finally realized that this meant “End of Life” for these detectors, I contacted you and order the replacement for all 9. They were ordered on July 15, 2021 and shipped to us on July 19th arriving and immediately installed on July 21st. 8 of them were mfg. on November 3, 2020 and one (1) was mfg. on March 27, 2021. That means that 8 of them are already 8 months old and the other one is 4 months old.
